Stephen K Winters
The First Judicial Circuit has a new district attorney. Stephen Winters was appointed this week by Gov. Kay Ivey to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Spencer Walker. Winters, who practices law in Butler, served as a full-time assistant DA in the early 2000s and has since served part-time. See a story in this week’s Clarke County papers. The First Circuit is composed of Choctaw, Clarke and Washington counties.
Our Services
Each year, local businesses lose tens of thousands of dollars because of bad checks that do not have sufficient funds to cover the purchase amount. As a result, companies are often forced to increase their prices to offset the loss of revenue caused by these checks, which directly affects other customers. The losses can sometimes be so severe that a merchant may have to go out of business. Business owners lose their livelihoods and employees of the company lose their jobs.
Alabama’s Child Support Enforcement Program is a Federal, State and local partnership designed to get your child the financial and medical support he or she deserves. The Program can assist in paternity establishment, location of parents, obtaining an order for support, enforcement and collection of support. Our goals are to ensure that children have the financial support of both their parents, to foster responsible behavior towards children, and to reduce welfare costs. New laws and enforcement tools each year give the State a better chance of collecting money. Services are available to all parents who need them.
The People of the Helping Families Initiative help students suspended from school for truancy or other destructive behaviors build productive futures while improving all students’ safety and learning environment.
We do this with in-depth family assessments that identify the root causes of these destructive behaviors. Our Inter-Agency Teams plan and deliver combinations of services that meet individual and family needs. We communicate human and statistical results to the public and other stakeholders.
